Becca Switzer, cSAMT

I'm Becca, a certified small animal massage therapist (cSMAT) in Portland, Oregon. I have grown up with animals in my life since childhood, from dogs and cats to horses, turtles, rabbits and miscellaneous rodents. While I love all animals, I've always felt a special connection with dogs. As a kid my act in our family "circus", which my siblings and I made all of our poor neighbors watch, was performing tricks with our family dog (see pic below). I always secretly wished our dogs could talk to me and made up comics and drawings depicting such imaginative scenarios. This childhood love of dogs has now turned me into that person who will always find the dog at a party. â€‹â€‹

My background is in human healthcare as a neurologic physical therapist and I've worked in that field for many years (still do!) but recently have felt something important missing in my life. That's why I went back to school at the Northwest School of Animal Massage in 2024, where I received my certification in Small Animal Massage Therapy. During my time there I studied quadruped anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, gait patterns, canine behavior, and of course, massage techniques. My doctoral background as a human therapist gives me an even deeper set of skills and intuition when it comes to bodywork.

Currently, I have three rescue dogs- Khaleesi, Lupa and Eevee- who this career change was inspired by (and who make up the heads of the wellhound!). They live quite a privileged life in the PNW with me and my husband, going on hikes and other adventures in our camper van. I am a strong advocate of adoption over breeding and volunteer weekly walking dogs at the Multnomah County Animal Shelter.

You can trust that when I work with your dog I will get to know them and their specific needs that may benefit from the massage. I'll also take time to get to know you as the owner because no one knows your dog better than you.
